Painter

Sean is a much celebrated local artist, who many of you will be familiar with for his stunning oil paintings, many of which are held in collections both here in New Zealand & around the world. 

Sean has been painting since his high school days in Cape Town, selling his first painting when he was 16 & holding his first solo show in 1994 at the young age of 22. A move to the UK saw Sean put down his paint brush & shift his focus to a career in graphic design. This career path is evident in his stylised prints of Rangitoto & other well known New Zealand places.

Travelling to New Zealand to live in 2007 inspired Sean to pick up his paint brush again after a hiatus of some years & he has since painted several series depicting the stunning landscapes of our shores, including his "into the heartland" series. Most recently, Sean held a solo exhibition at Turua Gallery entitled "10,000 steps", which celebrated the area he lives in with his family & is our backyard - the Eastern Suburbs of Auckland.

Sean is a master of capturing the mood of the land he is painting. You can feel the storm, the mist, the hot sun & the long road when you view his work. His skill at capturing the special places in our country by stripping them back to confident, bold brush strokes that tell you the story of the sky, sea & land he is depicting, enthrals viewers of his works.
