Marika Jones

Painter & Digital Print Artist

Marika Jones is a freelance digital print artist & painter.  Born in Dunedin & raised in Auckland, where Marika now lives in Grey Lynn, with her dog, Birdie.

Marika attended Auckland University, where she studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts for two years, finishing her third year at Northtec in Kerikeri, where she was awarded a Bachelor of Visual Arts.  Her work has featured in editorial publications, appeared on stationery, & is sold as fine art prints.

Marika spends a lot of time researching images of interest.  Historic images in her work are out of copyright or represent only a small percentage of the new image.  Different images are mashed together & repainted to create a new narrative that is unique to Marika.  Where a historic image is used in its totality, it is out of copyright so Marika refreshes it & new lease of life is through her art. Through her process Marika manages to capture nostalgia in a contemporary way that is quirky & humorous.
