Jo Gallagher
Painter
Relatively new to our gallery, Jo lives in the small King Country settlement of Piopio, which provides Jo with rich visual & personal influences. The changing seasons which bring new light & colour, the shifting ecology that gives her reason for concern & the fluctuating activity that is ever present when part of a farming culture are all hugely significant to Jo as an artist.
Jo works primarily as a contemporary realist having gained experience & new skills from the bold, gestural & more representational earlier work. The aspects she feels best able to represent include, the fun there is to be had with language, symbolism & entrenched beliefs, & all are reoccurring themes in Jo’s work.
Her choice of medium is acrylic on boxed plywood board or canvas. Jo exhibits in galleries throughout New Zealand & her work is held in private collections both here & internationally.
