As a self taught, multidisciplinary artist who often works under the name George Sand Studio - Carmel has been showing her breathtaking work at Turua Gallery for over a year & her pieces never last long. Carmel has always loved to draw & paint, & several years ago made the leap into full time artist.

Carmel’s work primarily concerns observations taken from her surroundings that resonate with her. Her floral series uses the simple act of marking canvas with painted brush strokes, which helps to convey a sense of time & movement, & offers the viewer a visible example of the rhythm of nature. The State House Series wonderfully captures a slice of New Zealand in a joyful & nostalgic way &, just as with her floral works, her stunning use of colour captures you & draws you in.

Carmel lives in Pirongia with her partner Luke & their children, & we recently held her first Auckland solo exhibition “Rhythm”, which was a sell out.
